Horrible company, didn't even take any pro-active efforts in protecting or respecting others rights & expression. Waited till the supreme court ruled that discrimination of certain groups is wrong. Amy C Barrett went to the same school as many of the senior leadership. Didn't hire a Global Diversity and Inclusion leader until the 2nd quarter of the C-19 Pandemic in 2020. Company intentionally waited until all the Trump supporters were emboldened to harass and belittle minorities, and only moved their hand when the supreme court ruled they wouldn't be able to turn a blind eye to it. This company cares far more about profits, over anything to do with creating a safer world or actual ethics and values. They'd most likely endorse suppressing certain groups of people, if not eliminating them from the company entirely - if and when they can get away with it. Internal Company Politics also "require"/heavily encourage managers and leadership to tow the line of the senior leadership. (Queue internal high-ups awareness of the Supreme Court Rulings and certain people knowing Amy C Barrett Directly). This company is backwards. Despite it's marketing of being a forward company. Putting a leader in charge, won't change the rest of the company's employees and dynamics magically. Especially if leadership (vast amount of managers) have proactively been avoiding equal employment opportunities for job seekers, or for opportunities to be given for scaling to different roles or positions. This company attracts those who are paralyzed with fear of the unknown, or what-if, and what they're unfamiliar to. This company probably believes liberal media is turning their children into non hetero minorities, within senior management from their college education stemming from a Catholic School of Notre Dame. This company probably believes non hetero minorities are mentally handicapped, and again, only provided protections when it was ruled by the supreme court in the middle of 2020 for illegality on not providing equal opportunity of such individuals. They completely avoid anything to do with Ted-Talks, because they don't like the inclusive nature of it, or potentially paying for any small endorsement fees or etc. And yet, they can have Anti-Vaxxers and heavy handed Conspiracy theorist embracers within management in their company's leadership positions. Pseduo-science within a safety company. This company is about 30-60 years in the past. The competition is devouring their markets, alongside their lobbying efforts failing to protect Trust/Monopoly Style Tactics. Their software and technology architecture is similarly outdated in mindset and scope, increasing turn-around time for their clients, at the consumers' costs and expenses. Their healthcare is lackluster, and their internal training programs are mostly amateur if not seemingly childish. Most public education economy and business class easily supersede in their efficiency. This is probably a tie in with their inability to stomach paying higher end professionals for internal training and development. Relying mostly on those with secondary associates degrees to provide input and development on. (Their internal development, is not a priority for the company, and if you're looking to grow here as an individual in the long term, this is most likely not a place for you to be, unless you land yourself into a senior management or leadership position right outside of school/college/etc.) Look elsewhere. (They are also excessively off loading most of their business overseas, and most internal employees have long speculated a Sell off - of the company to a competitor or a different buyer, especially once they decide to go public potentially - which may be pushed back because of the pandemic interrupting their business revenue forecasts.) [Again, they're relying on external and foreign countries investments into their local populations education at a higher discount/subsidy, versus the cost of similarly educated Staff in the United States. --- Queue why the Company is dubbed Underpaid Labor]

yoU Lose when you choose UL. Dealing with their field agents has been a complete nightmare and they do not care about product performance or safety, just their bottom line. Ever since UL was sued in the 80s for monopolizing the testing industry there are other options for NRTLs! They may write the standards, but no one is forced to be bled dry with terrible customer service while they take in record profits, yet they cannot organize themselves to be helpful in the least. It's nothing but ball-dropping and excuse making from them. SAY NO TO UL - they still to this day massively abuse their reach and deceive you with name recognition into thinking that they will help. This is simply not the case.

The company which certifies consumer products that are not safe for use. As well, ignorant enough not to respond to the people's requests about how in the world can they get certified something hazardous to use for cooking. Response to the owner's response: Either you don't check what has already been submitted before your reply or you just don't care and respond for a show off. I think it's a miserable show off.

The remodeled lobby is modern yet has touches of their history. Having conference rooms near the door removes the problem if finding your room in a maze. Great new space.

Worked out here for a few months in 2016. Friendly people. Suffers from old school mentality and most employees just seemed lethargic, probably just there for the paycheck. Not open to much change or younger workers for that matter. I did enjoy the walking path around the lake and would go running there after work. Good cafeteria food at a very reasonable price. Overall average place.

There are several different types of testing and rating systems for building materials but in the roofing industry you must have a UL label. When I was in college and installing roofs we would argue over who put on hoe many bundles of shingles. The UL stamp on each bundle was considered proof and we used the little stamps currency. The testing done by these engineers is the best in the world and saves many lives. Without their stamp of approval no roofing product is really marketable. It is almost as if a law were passed requiring UL approval on roofing products.

My first experiences of these folk was of a group of people who thought so highly of themselves that they constantly made mistakes. They never bench-marked their performance against similar organisations in other countries and often made random decisions simply based on the fact that because they were UL they knew best. In recent years I have found one or two people who are willing to listen to a logical reasoned argument, but UL Standards themselves are still based on hearsay rather than on solid evidence and very often the requirements are open to considerable interpretation. There is still a culture of trying to cover their backs rather than trying to do a good job. In one Standard there was a description of the statistics used to determine component lifetime and a chart of suggested sample numbers, when we presented data to demonstrate that we met the statistical requirements - none of the 'Engineers' understood their own statistics and in the end we had to re-do the test with numbers exactly as in the sample chart because they were unable to comprehend how to use their own equations. When doing a sprinkler test with them we were a considerable way into the fire before the testers realized that the water to the sprinklers hadn't been turned on! Ok UL performed the test again at their expense, but I have many examples of cases when UL staff failed to live up to their own opinion of themselves. The only reason that I can see for UL getting such a high rating is that they get their own people to write the reviews, especially as everyone that I know who deals with UL has found them to be exasperating in the extreme. However, I haven't given them zero stars, because of a couple of competent staff members who are valiantly bucking the complacency culture and actually trying to do a good job under difficult circumstances.
